Estate Sale – This type of sale refers to the properties of a deceased person. Unfortunately, like anything else these days, the term is often over played and used for other than true estate sales. An estate sale implies that you would find all of the contents of a home including furniture, antiques and other items of value. Unlike a yard sale where people are generally parting with things that they no longer want an estate sale implies that the sellers are parting with everything. These types of sales tend to attract antique and other dealers. |

Flea Market – These days, most flea markets consist of numerous vendors selling new items. This is not always the case and if you look hard enough you can still find some flea markets where vendors sell used personal items or used items that they sell as a business, such as an antique shop selling their items through a flea market. Vendors or sellers are individuals or individual businesses who pay a vendor fee to the hosting organization in order to sell at the flea market. |

Rummage Sale – This is an older term that implies that you will be searching through used items. The term is seldom used these days for the individual sale and is most commonly used for a sale of assorted second hand items that have been contributed by donors to raise money for a charity. For example; a church may gather items from it’s parishioners to be sold in order to raise money for the church or perhaps a family in need. In many cases these events will be coupled with a bake sale. Rummage sales are most often held in doors in a large open room. |
| Swap Meet – A swap meet is basically a flea market with all used items. They are usually specific to a particular subject area, such as cars, motorcycles, hobbies and so on. Vendors selling their individual items gather in an indoor or outdoor forum to sell their items. Many times these are hosted by clubs or organizations. | |

Tag Sale – This is a sale of household items where everything has a price affixed to it. If any of the other types of sales have prices properly affixed to sale items as we recommend then they are all technically tag sales. Tag sales often have a “higher end” and strictly household item connotation then a yard sale but there really is no difference in the types of things or range of pricing than you would find at any of the other types of sales. |
