WELCOME MESSAGE

Welcome to Yard Sale Help.  We are a new website for the yard and garage sale communities.  We use the term “yard and garage sale communities” to refer to the entire community of after market and non commercial sales including; flea markets, antique shops, craft sales, auctions and the many different types of home sales.  For more information on the different types of sales that our site serves please see our facts and definitions page.

Yard saling has become one of America’s favorite weekend past times.  Go anywhere in the country and drive around the suburbs and rural areas and you are sure to find many a signs advertising yard, garage, moving, tag and other types of signs.  Pick up any local newspaper and turn the classified section and you will likely find a segment of it dedicated to advertisings sales.  Yard saling for many has become a good excuse for a weekend drive in the country.  Some are out shopping for bargains on things, some are out scouting antiques and collectables while others are just out for a drive or to hang out in the front yard with the neighbors and catch up on things.  There is no doubt that many bargains can be found at yard sales and flea markets and that is what makes it so much fun.  What is even better is that you can find things that can no longer be purchased in a store, such as antiques, hand crafted items and one of a kinds.

On the selling side of things, yard saling is a good way to reduce clutter and make a few extra dollars.  It is also a great fund raising opportunity for community and religious groups.  Whether you are buying or selling, yard saling can be a lot of fun.

But, yard saling can also be profitable.  Many people have turned yard saling into a business and this has grown significantly with the introduction to the internet and online auction sites, such as eBay.  In the past, people would buy and re-sell in their own yard sales, junk shops or at flea markets but today they also have the ability to reach very specific markets through the internet.

What's in the Future for Yard Sale Help?

Our intention is to become the premier website for the yard and garage sale communities.  We have many ideas and visions for the site but, it will be up to you, our visitors and site users, to make us successful.  Without your continued input and use of our site this site will never be all that we would like it to be.  With this in mind, we welcome your ideas and suggestions.  We also welcome the help of anyone that would like to help create additional pages or features or to moderate a discussion group on our soon to be added forums.

Yard saling and flea market shopping can be a lot of fun and this site will make it even better for both shoppers and sellers.  Please explore, visit often and use the features of this site frequently.

Why bother having a yard sale if I don’t need the money?

First of all, it’s the right thing to do!  Tossing otherwise perfectly good things into the trash just because you no longer want them is wasteful and environmentally insensitive.   If you don’t need the money, have the yard sale anyway and donate the proceeds to the charity of your choice.  There is another reason to have a sale even if you don’t need the money.  You would be giving those less fortunate people in your community a chance to purchase your items at a fraction of their original cost.  So, having a yard sale is not a reflection of your own need for money.  While yard saling can be a lot of fun and give you a chance to catch up with the neighbors, if you still don’t want to be bothered look for a church, fire department, scouting group or other charity that is holding a sale and donate the items.  You can simply collect them in boxes and call one of these organizations to come and pick them up.
